'Twilight' hit the number one spot yesterday
Cover Drive have knocked Jessie J from the top of the UK singles chart with their second release ‘Twilight’.
The Barbadian four-piece sold 10,000 copies more than their nearest rival – ‘Titanium’ by David Guetta ft. Sia – to claim the chart summit.
They told The Official Charts Company: “Arghhhh! We’re Number 1! Woooh! We’ve got this amazing trophy from the Official Charts and we’re so happy, we’re going to put it on our shelf!
“We just want to thank everyone who supported the record, thankyou so much for buying Twilight and for requesting it on the radio. We’re so happy and excited and grateful, we can’t even explain. Please don’t judge us for our girly screams!
“We went from starting with videos and covers in T-Ray’s basement and putting them up on YouTube as this little band from Barbados to being Number 1 on the charts!”
Last week’s number one, ‘Domino’ by Jessie J, slipped to number three and Rizzle Kicks dropped two places to four with ‘Mama Do The Hump’.
Flo Rida’s latest effort ‘Wild Ones’ completed the top five and marked guest vocalist Sia’s second entry in the upper tier of the charts.
Over on the album chart Ed Sheeran climbed to number one with ‘+’ and Coldplay climbed to two with ‘Mylo Xyloto’.
Adele’s ‘21’, Bruno Mars’ ‘Doo Wops & Hooligans’ and Rizzle Kicks’ ‘Stereo Typical’ made up the rest of the top five.
