The album has overtakes Amy Winehouse's 'Back To Black'
Adele’s ‘21’ has become the biggest selling album of the 21st Century in the UK, according to the Official Charts Company.
In just 11 months the songstress’ second album has shifted over 3.4million records on home turf leapfrogging the previous record-holder, Amy Winehouse’s ‘Back To Black’ which has sold 3.3million copies.
Astonishingly, since its release back in January ‘21’ hasn’t dropped out of the top ten once in its 45 weeks on the chart.
Internationally the album has spent 13 weeks atop the US Billboard 200, 23 weeks atop the Australian ARIA Album Chart, 26 weeks at number one in New Zealand and 29 weeks at the top spot in Ireland.
In total, the album is estimated to have sold in excess of 12million copies globally including 4.75million in the United States.
Despite having to axe two tours after haemorrhaging her vocal cords, Adele has ended 2011 on a high with six Grammy Award nominations including the prestigious Album of the Year and Record of the Year honours.
